A variety of aircraft from the Great War, the Golden Age of Aviation, the Second World War and the Jet age. Some real high octane stuff!
Please note that participating aircraft and static displays will be subject to weather, availability and serviceability. As aircraft and displays are announced they will be added here.

The C-17 Globemaster III operated by No. 36 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force is planning to flyby our show. All subject to weather, aircraft serviceability and other ‘operational’ requirements. The RAAF operate 8 of these massive 4 engines beasts who use them to support personnel on deployments, and as integral part of disaster relief and humanitarian missions.

The BAC 167 Strikemaster Mk.88 is a British training and light attack jet which the RNZAF operated 16 of the type from 1972 as a lead in trainer for the A4 Skyhawks.
NZ6372 is an ex RNZAF airframe which flown by No. 14 Squadron. It is the only airworthy ex-RNZAF Strikemaster flying in New Zealand.

The DC-3, the Dakota, the Goonie Bird or just plain “Betsy”… whatever you call her, you have to love her. The DC-3 is a twin-engine, propeller-driven airliner that transformed air travel in the 1930s and 1940s by making passenger flights fast, reliable, and profitable. First flown in 1935 and built by the Douglas Aircraft Company, it could carry around 21–32 passengers or about 6,000 pounds of cargo over roughly 1,500 miles, often operating from short, rough runways.

The Yakovlev Yak-3 was a compact Soviet World War II fighter aircraft, renowned for for its agility and excellent performance at low and medium altitudes. Yak-3s were in service with the Soviet air force as well as the famed Normandie-Niemen Free French Fighter unit. Over 4000 of the type were built.
Full Noise is Yak-3 which has competed at the world famous Reno Air Races and holds the New Zealand 3km speed record! Rides will be available contact Fighter Flights at graeme@fighterflights.co.nz

The Yak-52 is a primary trainer that was developed in the late 1970s for Soviet Russia’s military. Like most Russian aircraft, the Yak-52 is a rugged design, capable of operating in the extreme temperatures of Siberia whilst requiring minimal maintenance. The tricycle landing gear is retractable but remains exposed in-flight providing protection to the airframe should a “wheels up” landing occur.

North American Aviation’s beloved T6 Texan trainer earned itself the title “The Pilot Maker” due to its important role in preparing allied pilots for combat during World War Two. The RNZAF operated 202 Harvards from 1941 till their retirement in 1977, after serving for 36 years training Kiwi pilots. It was the last wartime aircraft to see service with the RNZAF.
The Roaring Forties display team will once again take to the skies at Warbirds on Parade.

The Tiger Moth is a 1930s biplane that was operated by many Commonwealth and Allied nations during the Second World War. The types handling was found to be ideal for training pilots and therefore the type was used as an initial trainer in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan before trainees moved onto the more powerful Harvard and fighter types.

The DHC-1 Chipmunk is the first indigenous aircraft designed by the Canadian company, which was originally setup as a subsidiary of its parent company in 1928. It was designed to be a replacement for the Tiger Moth and as such was procured by the RAF and RCAF where it was used as a primary trainer.

The Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2e was a British built, single-engine, biplane first used by the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) from 1912 till 1919. Originally intended as a front line fighter for air to air combat, their inherently stable characteristics and poor performance made them easy prey for the German Fokker Eindecker. Despite this it was used for other roles including as a light bomber, night fighter, anti-submarine and coastal patrol reconnaissance platform, and trainer.

Introduced in the later stages of the First World War, the Albatros D.Va is a German single seat fighter featuring a streamlined semi-monocoque wooden fuselage and fabric covered wings. It was an attempt to improve on the earlier D.V which was found to have to structural failures. When the D.Va was deployed to front line units it was already more-or-less obsolete having to operate with a restriction on its diving performance. Despite this, the Albatros remained in front line use till the Armistice.

During August of 1918, the Siemens Schuckert D.IV started to appear with front line units. It was officially described as being “superior by far to all single-seaters in use” and was regarded to be the best performing fighter of the Great War. Despite its qualities the type saw little conflict as the following month saw the armistice signed and the War came to an end.

The Bristol Fighter F.2B, affectionately known as the “Brisfit”, is a British 2 seat aircraft that was used during the later stages of World War One. Designed by Frank Barnwell, it was intended to replace the Royal Aircraft Factory’s B.E.2. fulfilling a variety of roles including a fighter, light bomber and reconnaissance platform. It was fast, manoeuvrable and could dive faster than any other aircraft at the time.

NZ Warbirds at Ardmore is fortunate to have one of two, full-scale Bristol Scouts worldwide. This particular machine was built in the USA by the late Herb Harkey in the 1990’s and was completed in 1997. Although it is a replica, there are original period components such as the cockpit instruments and, of course, its authentic 80hp Le’Rhone rotary engine.

Famous for being flown by Manfred Von Richthofen (The Red Baron), the Fokker Dr.1 was introduced late 1917 and pilots were quick to regard it for its climbing ability, manoeuvrability, and light controls when compared to other fighters of the time such as the Albatros and Pfalz. No original airframes have survived with the last of the type destroyed by a bombing raid during WW2.

The Cessna Bird Dog is a liaison and observation aircraft. It served in many branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and was used during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. It was the first all-metal fixed-wing aircraft ordered for and by the United States Army following the Army Air Forces’ separation from it in 1947.

The Extra 330LX is a two-seat tandem aerobatic monoplane capable of Unlimited category competition. Like the MXS the Extra is constructed from Carbon fiber and Carbon composites making it super light and really maneuverable!
David Cranna will be the pilot and will be putting this sleek machine through its paces.

The DR-107 was designed as a low-cost one design aircraft for competition and sport basic to advanced aerobatics, including International Aerobatic Club Class One competitions. For this role it is stressed to +/-10g.
David Wilkinson will be the pilot and will be putting this sleek machine through its paces.

Ardmore welcomes Richard Hood’s Pitts S-1SS. This aircraft is a single seat, fully aerobatic biplane. The S-1SS has symmetrical airfoils and features an aileron setup derived from the S-1-11/-11B “Super Stinker” aircraft developed for competition aerobatics.

The Bell 429 helicopter is used by the air support ‘Eagle’ unit as an airborne observation platform. From their vantage point in the sky the crew are able to readily coordinate the operations of ground units.
This twin-engine machine is a huge hit every time – especially with families who enjoy seeing how its cameras work and finding out more about the work they do.

The AW169 is specifically designed for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) work and are used around the world for search and rescue and air ambulance work. The Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust have the only AW169s operational in New Zealand.
The Westpac Rescue helicopter will be performing a winching demonstration on the day.

The CT/4 is a NZ built, basic trainer designed in the early 1970s.
The CT/4s were purchased by the RNZAF in 1976 for the central flying school (replacing the war time Harvards) training hundreds of kiwi airforce pilots until 2014 when the type was replaced by the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II.

The Miles M.38 Messenger was developed in 1942 as an Airborne Observation Post (AOP) and liaison aircraft. It was designed to operate from unprepared airstrips in various weather conditions and be flown by pilots with limited experience. Only 93 Messengers were built

The de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver is a high wing, short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft designed for bush operations from unprepared airfields. Its utilitarian design has seen it succeed in a variety of roles such as cargo & passenger transportation and aerial topdressing. Configuring the airframe with either wheels, skis, floats or amphibious floats allows operations in a variety of conditions.

The Seasprite is a “maritime helicopter operated by No. 6 Squadron. They are flown by Royal New Zealand Navy aircrew and maintained by Royal New Zealand Air Force maintainers”. It primary missions include anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, anti-ship missile defense, and anti-ship surveillance and targeting. Secondary missions may include medical evacuation, search and rescue, personnel and cargo transfer, as well as small boat interdiction, amphibious assault air support, gun fire spotting, mine detection and battle damage assessment. The team from MOTAT will bringing a Loyd Carrier to Warbirds on Parade! The Loyd Carrier is a small tracked vehicle used by the British and Commonwealth forces in the Second World War to transport equipment, infantry support weapons and men about the battlefield.

We are hoping to have the Subritzky family’s unique Vickers Vincent biplane bomber on display to coincide with Warbirds on Parade.
This aircraft – NZ311 – is the only known survivor of the Vickers Vincent type and served with the RAF from 1937 to 1939 before being shipped to NZ and serving with RNZAF from 1939 to 1944.

The Ryan PT-22 is a World War II–era, two-seat, open-cockpit military trainer aircraft used primarily by the United States Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Army Air Forces for primary pilot training.
We are very fortunate to have New Zealand’s only Ryan PT-22 based at Ardmore. After spending several years grounded for an engine rebuild, it has now returned to the air—just in time for Warbirds on Parade.

Historic high octane Formula 5000 racing cars will be at Warbirds on Parade – and all going according to plan will be blasting down the runway (almost like the good old days when the NZ Grand Prix was hosted at Ardmore Airport).

Since 2011, the Auckland Air Patrol has operated a dedicated Cessna 182 aircraft, registered as ZK-SAR. The Coastguard Air Patrol can search up to 35 square miles of water and shoreline per hour, reducing the time needed to cover large search areas and improving SAR outcomes.

Its one of the biggest restoration projects we have taken on (literally) and the fuselage is all spick and span and will be on display. The English Electric Canberra was the Royal Air Force’s first jet-powered bomber. The RNZAF operated numerous Canberra types from 1958 to 1970. Members from the Canberra Support Group will be on hand to talk about this imposing jet bomber.
