We are committed to keeping you safe. You may notice a few changes around the site on your next visit as we follow Ministry of Health guidelines to help reduce the possible spread of COVID-19.

These pages provide information about the precautions we’re taking to ensure you can visit our NZ Warbirds at Ardmore collection safely so you can get the most out of your visit.

Please check back here for further updates as we navigate the latest Covid-19 response framework.

Things to Know

Do I have to wear a mask?

Masks are mandatory, in keeping with government requirements all NZ Warbirds at Ardmore visitors aged 12 and over are required to wear a mask at all times within our hangar collection. If you are exempt from wearing a mask for medical reasons, you will need to let our staff know upon arrival that you hold a mask exemption.

Note that you won’t be able to dispose of any masks in our hangar rubbish bins. Please take them home with you.

Are you contact tracing?

Yes, you can scan in using the NZ Covid Tracer app, a QR code is clearly displayed when you enter.  If you don’t have a mobile device to scan the QR code with, please sign in manually.

Are you managing physical distancing?

Please remain aware of social distancing guidelines and keep two metres apart from our volunteers and other visitors as you move about the hangars. You are able to explore our collection with members of your own ‘bubble’, but you will need to keep 2 metres apart from non-connected groups of people.  We have signage up to remind you and tape on the floor as a visual reminder in places where people may congregate at entrance doors and restroom facilities.

Does NZ Warbirds at Ardmore have any additional cleaning procedures?

Yes, as well as our regular cleaning, we are ensuring frequent cleaning of high touch surfaces, such as handrails and handles.  As our aviation collection is operational and surfaces complex, we are unable to keep the surfaces of our aircraft sanitised, so please do not touch any of our display collection.  Additional wall mounted sanitiser units have been added to entrance ways for you your use.

How are you handling payments?

We will currently only be accepting contactless payments for entrance and our merchandise shop; no cash payments will be accepted.

Will your merchandise shop be open?

Our shop will be open, stocked with a great selection of books, gifts, both adult and children’s clothing and kitsets and children’s toys.  Leading up to Christmas 2021 all merchandise is discounted 20%. All purchases made help support NZ Warbirds Association as we are a registered charity, and helps to ‘Keep ‘em Flying’.

What days and hours are we open?

We are staffed by a small team of volunteers and during current Covid levels we will only be open Sundays, from 28 November until 19 December 2021 between 10:30am – 3:00pm leading up to Christmas.

Is proof of vaccination required?

The government is yet to release its vaccination certificate, so proof of vaccination isn’t currently required for visitors. This will be updated when we move to the ‘Red Light’ as part of the new Covid Framework.

We believe that we can safely follow the government’s requirements and provide the safest environment possible for our volunteers and visitors. Masks are required for all visitors aged 12 and over at all times within the hangars, and you’ll need to sign in for contact tracing. We do ask that you remain at least 2m from other visitors outside your bubble and our staff, at all times.

Will any tours be operating?

No tours are operating at this time.

Are tour groups or school groups able to visit?

No tour groups or school groups are able to visit during current our Covid levels. We will not be having any Museum led groups at this time.

Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook information for updates.

Are you having fewer visitors than normal?

We are complying with Covid 19 guidelines and depending on how many visitors chose to visit, we may limit the numbers inside at any one time, so that we can remain safe and control the flow in and out.

  • What a birthday gift from my family. A stunning flight and my wife said my smile after climbing (clambering) out of the cockpit was to be seen. Gary my pilot was totally professional and made it all so enjoyable.

  • Fantastic opportunity to get up close to some of the icons of New Zealand’s aviation history - with the majority being flyable examples. Knowable guides to fill in any gaps in your own knowledge. Topped off by an amazing scale model collection.

  • Interesting guided visit around the War Birds Facility, get up close to the war planes. Beautiful display. Would suggest combine with a visit to the Auckland Botanical Gardens. A Great Auckland Day Out.

  • On the Ardmore Airport (the busiest airport in the southern hemisphere) are two hangers of war planes. I have lived nearby for years and the planes often fly over my house but I have never before visited the exhibition. They have a Spitfire, a P45 Mustang, a Skyhawk and many many more aircraft. Almost all of them still fly. I was fascinated by the pre-WWII planes. The beauty of the engineering is fascinating and there are not many places you can get so close to the planes. You can also pay to have a flight in many of he planes. That is something I am planning for later in the year. The staff were all very helpful and knowledgeable. I will be taking all my visitors there in future.

POSTPONEMENT OF NZ WARBIRDS ON PARADE COMMEMORATING THE ANNIVERSARY PEARL HARBOR - 5TH DECEMBER 2021 Sadly due to the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 Levels, the size of gatherings, the unknown as yet government restrictions and requirements around event management, we have sadly made the decision to postpone our forthcoming NZ Warbirds on Parade commemoration show on Sunday 5th December 2021. NZ Warbirds Association is a charitable not-for-profit organisation and produces these events to raise money to help keep us operating and our aircraft flying. Cancelling an event at the last minute incurs a large loss of our existing funds having had to pre-pay many suppliers along with the cost of certification and regulatory commitments – so a last minute cancellation or postponement is just not something the association can afford to do. We know this will be as disappointing for you, as it is for us, however we are still planning to hold this event in the new year sometime, so please keep an eye out on our website and social media platforms for updates. The good news is our team are planning smaller scale events like our successful Tarmac Days and Hangar Talks which more easily put together, cost a lot less to produce and can easily be postponed if we need to. Thanks for your support and we can’t wait to safely open our doors again and welcome you in to our hangars. Trish Reynolds General Manager NZ Warbirds Association Inc
