Ryan Pt-22 Recruit
Primary Trainer
The Ryan PT-22 was the United States Army Air Corps’ (USAAC) first purpose built monoplane primary trainer. The PT-22 was a continued development of the PT-20 series of aircraft of which were based on the earlier Ryan STM.
Our aircraft was built at the Ryan Aircraft Company’s San Diego factory in August, 1941. It entered service with the USAAC in February 1942 and used as a primary trainer. After the war it was entered on the civil register as N5795 and went through a number of owners. It was brought to NZ during the mid 1990s and has been an active aircraft in the Ardmore circuit. It was donated to NZ Warbirds where she is part of an operations group where pilots can pay a monthly fee to fly this fantastic aircraft.
