Airborne Observation Post (AOP) & Liaison
The Miles M.38 Messenger was developed in 1942 as an Airborne Observation Post (AOP) and liaison aircraft. It was designed to operate from unprepared airstrips in various weather conditions and be flown by pilots with limited experience. Only 93 Messengers were built
The aircraft on display was built after the war in 1947 and was used as an air taxi in the UK. After a number of years in Australia it was sold and shipped to NZ in 2003. It has been painted to represent the last of three Messengers operated by Field Marshal Montgomery, RH368.
