Travelling to Warbirds on Parade?

What to bring:

Make sure you bring a hat, wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water.  Although there is food and drink available we do recommend that you bring your own as sometimes the queues get long in between displays.

NO DOGS are allowed at Ardmore Airport except registered service dogs.

How to get here:

Ardmore airport is situated 5-10 minutes east of Papakura/Takanini and 30-40 minutes south of the Auckland CBD.  If you are are travelling to Ardmore for Warbirds on Parade there are a couple of things to know.

On show day there will be extensive traffic management around the airport.  Please follow the directions by traffic management personnel.

Firstly, access to Ardmore Airport is via Hamlin Road ONLY!  The Airfield Road entrance via Corsair Lane is CLOSED!

Hamlin Road can be accessed either by Mill/Cosgrove Road or Papakura-Clevedon Road.

When you arrive at Ardmore Airport you will be directed to parking.  Once parked you can then make your way to the ticket gates and show entrance.  There will be plenty of signage showing you were to go.

  • Fantastic opportunity to get up close to some of the icons of New Zealand’s aviation history - with the majority being flyable examples. Knowable guides to fill in any gaps in your own knowledge. Topped off by an amazing scale model collection.

  • Interesting guided visit around the War Birds Facility, get up close to the war planes. Beautiful display. Would suggest combine with a visit to the Auckland Botanical Gardens. A Great Auckland Day Out.

This aircraft now resides at the Ashburton Aviation Museum but for a number of years resided at NZ Warbirds at Ardmore.
It has been modified to have a 14-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R2000 rated at 1450 HP (not the 9-cylinder Wright R-1820 Cyclone typical for the type).
